Denison-Schleswig was a 14-4 high school baseball winner over Greene County last night in Jefferson at Allensworth Field. It was the season opener for both teams and was also the head coaching debut for Kyle Stalder at the helm of the Rams after serving as an assistant coach in recent seasons. Coach Stalder’s son, Bryce, is the assistant coach after earning All-State honors on the diamond for the Rams just one season ago.
Monday’s contest ended in five innings by the 10 run rule and the Monarchs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one-half inning. Three Greene County pitchers combined to walk 14 Monarchs and two other batters were hit by pitches. D-S scored in every inning by adding three runs in the second, one each in the third and fourth, and three runs in the fifth.
Greene County scored once in the first, twice in the second, and a final time in the fourth. The Rams had five hits with senior Brayden Roberts delivering a two run double for the only extra base hit. Senior Matthew Hovick, sophomore Noah Hinote, sophomore Crew Conner, and sophomore Camden Jacobs each singled once. Sophomore Isaac Carman drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.
