The Dallas County Conservation Board will offer an opportunity for participants to scout birds on Saturday.
The “May Bird Hike,” will be from 8:30-10:30 am at the Kuehn Conservation Area. Outreach Coordinator Sarah Gilchrist says that this hike is for beginners and will focus on scouting seasonal birds that are new to the area. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio so far they have had a great response to this program.
“It’s a fantastic hobby because you can do it no matter where you are. And once you really start opening your eyes to what’s around you, it’s amazing the variety of birds that we have. And then you kind of get a little bit more invested and maybe you want to get a nice set of binoculars or maybe a guide. Maybe you want to start putting out seasonal bird seed in your backyard to attract certain things.”
The conservation board will provide attendees with a set of binoculars and educational books during the event. It is free and registration is only necessary to be notified if the event gets canceled.
