The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board moved forward with limiting next year’s open enrollment.
The Board approved, at their meeting in xxx month, to close open enrollment for students in grades 7 through 12 and special education students in kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2023-24 school year, due to insufficient classroom space factors. Superintendent Greg Dufoe explains the problem they have run into.
“The middle school and high school buildings are the ones that have the most limited classroom space. And obviously that fits with our master planning process. That shows just that, that our growth is starting to become a pinch point at those levels.”
Dufoe says on the contrary they are continuing to have open enrollment for students in K-6th grades. According to the adopted policy, the district reserves the right to close open enrollment in grades K-6 at any time the total enrollment of the district at any grade level meets any of the “insufficient classroom space” factors.
