2020 Greene County High School graduate Carter Morton of Jefferson was named the MVP of the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Meet for men May 12-14 at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Morton is a third year U. of Northern Iowa athlete who has had quite the first few months of the year. The latest honor piggybacks on top of earlier achievements in 2023 including the MVP of the MVC Indoor Track & Field Championship and the Drake Relays Decathlon title. He’s the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson.

Motor focused on individual events last weekend instead of competing in a third decathlon in four weeks. He won the long jump at 23′ 9-1/2″, was second in the triple jump with a best leap of 49′ 4-1/4″, second in the javelin throw at 181 feet, and he placed fourth in the high jump at 6′ 9″. Morton also competed in the pole vault, but did not place in that event. He set personal bests in the javelin and triple jump.
