The 2023 high school baseball season starts tonight for a new Greene County coaching staff, and many players, who are new to regular varsity level roles. Denison-Schleswig provides the opposition at Allensworth Field in Jefferson.

The Rams were 8-15 in 2022 under head coach Matt Paulsen and his father, assistant coach Kevin Paulsen. Another father-son coaching duo steps on the diamond with Kyle Stalder beginning his head coaching career and his son, Bryce, just one year removed from high school, as the assistant. Both are former Rams players and Bryce earned All-State honors last summer.

Two seniors have the most varsity experience. Brayden Roberts and Dakota Mobley will likely be looked upon to lead. Mobley is recovering from labrum surgery and is expected to  miss at least the first part of the season.  Mobley had 46 at bats in 2022 on the varsity level while Roberts, a baseball recruit at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs as a catcher. hit .344 last season for the Rams in 61 at-bats. A team with just three seniors, no juniors, and many first time varsity players gets the season underway tonight.

The Rams and Monarchs can be heard this evening on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
