The Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards recently selected the Perry Drama Department with several different awards and recognitions for their musical called “Matilda.” 

Perry’s Alexa Nelson received a “Special Recognition for Performance in a Principal Role,” for her portrayal of Matilda, Riley Sergent was also awarded for his “Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role,” for his portrayal of Ms. Trunchbull and he was nominated for the “Triple Threat Competition,” for a chance to represent Iowa in New York City at The Jimmy Awards. In addition, Sergent was invited to perform solo as Ms. Trunchbull at the IHSMTA Showcase at the Civic Center in Des Moines on June 1st and Candace Hoisington, Maddy Hollingsworth and Alexa Nelson will perform in the Awards Showcase in the Finale Medley. Additionally, the entire production received the “Distinguished Scene Award,” for their work on the hammer scene.
