The regular season soccer finales were played on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson as Greene County hosted East Sac County. The Raiders won 9-0 in girls’ soccer and the Class 2A number six Greene County boys were 10-0 winners by the 10-goal margin rule with just under 10 minutes to play in the second half.
ESC’s girls improved to 5-8 while the Rams fell to 1-10. The Raiders led 4-0 at the half and increased the margin to 9-0 with just under 20 minutes to play in the second half. Seniors are Bella Linberg, Alexa Peters, Kaitlin Fields, Katrina Heupel, and Natalie Heupel. The two teams meet again this Monday at 7 o’clock in Wall Lake to begin postseason play in Class 1A Region 6.
Gesser Gutierres scored six goals as Coach Carl Behne’s Rams built a 6-0 lead in the first half en route to win number 11 vs. just four losses. Bork Ersness added a pair of goals and Landon Carstens and Jose Velazco each scored once. Cody Mc Collom and Ersness each had three assists with a single assist by Velazco. Goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had five saves and Coach Behne said the first four were routine. “The last one took a great diving effort to stop and secure the clean sheet.” Seniors are Bork Ersness, Lucas Jablonski, Chad Maston, Cody McCollom, Brayden Roberts, Mylo Taute, and Jose Velazco.
The boys won’t play again until May 22 in the second round of postseason play due to receiving a bye as the number one seed in Substate 7. Panorama and Ballard meet on May 15 and the winning team is Greene County’s first postseason opponent.
