Perry residents ate tacos and learned about new careers and scholarship opportunities at the Des Moines Area Community College Perry Vankirk Career Academy’s Third Annual Tacopalooza on Wednesday.

There were three taco vendors onsite feeding hungry DMACC students, staff and other community members with $1 tacos and everyone voted for their favorite taco vendor. In addition, there were DMACC representatives from the Perry VanKirk Career Academy presenting information on financial aid and scholarship applications and there were also businesses conducting onsite interviews for the career fair that was going on. DMACC President Rob Denson talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about how important Tacopalooza is to promoting higher education.

“Right now there are so many great jobs in Iowa. And as I tell everybody, this is not the time to take a gap year. This is the time to double down, get the skills that companies need, and they’re paying well. Benefits are great. So start your career right now and then you’ll be very, very pleased and happy you did. And then start at DMACC.”

When the taco votes were added up at the end of the night, “Cocina Los Agaves Mexican Food Truck,” was named the best taco in Perry.
