Perry Middle School students packaged 20,000 meals that will be shipped to underprivileged children all around the world in their gymnasium on Thursday.
Meals from the Heartland traveled from Des Moines to set up meal kit building stations for Perry’s eighth grade students to create meals that consist of rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins and then they were packaged in boxes to be sent to underdeveloped countries. All the food provided in building the kits were sponsored by Raccoon Valley Bank. Meals from the Heartland Event Coordinator Ben Croghan says this act of kindness will go a long way.
“It always feels great to see these kids, you know, come down, work together to package just a really large amount of meals. We’re doing 20,000 meals today. That’s going to feed 77 kids for an entire year.”
Raccoon Valley Bank Marketing Officer Kelsey Hughes says they wanted to put on this event because of their prior relationship of helping teach financial literacy to the students in Chris Mark’s technology class.
