When the Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool opens for the season, there will be some new looks to some of the structures.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen tells Raccoon Valley Radio renovations to the pool house were done by the contractor, Westbrook Construction. He says there’s a new family restroom, along with direct access to the pool from the main entrance, along with the existing women’s and men’s locker rooms. Hammen points out the men’s locker room now has privacy stalls and the shower area is blocked off, whereas before everything was completely open.
Hammen explains that the contractor removed two brick walls on the women’s locker room and made some other changes to build a new family restroom.
“The women’s restroom had originally I think it was six toilets in it. We took the area where the two toilets were (and) still leaves four toilets in the women’s side, which I think is quite adequate. The family restroom then became a shower, and a toilet, and a sink in that same area. They lost a little space on the women’s locker room side, but I think there was adequate space on that side before we started this project. It shouldn’t really inconvenience anybody.”
Hammen notes that not only will the pool house look different, but there are some new amenities in the pool as well.
“We received a Grow Greene County (Gaming Corporation) grant for a new slide. We realized at the end of the season that the current slide that had outlived its usefulness. And then we’re going to add a new feature, it’s going to be a rock climbing wall and we were able to get funding through the Greene County (Community) Foundation. So we’re pretty excited about that to have a couple new features to hopefully entice the community to come on in and try out our pool this year.”
JPRD received a $35,776 GGCGC grant for the slide and a $12,215 grant from GCCF for the new rock climbing wall.
