An iconic structure in Jefferson is now open on the weekends.
The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower is open Saturdays and Sundays in May from 10am-4pm. Youth that are 18 and younger can get in for free, due to the sponsorship of the Victor Zike Trust and the Rosalene (Kay) Zike Trust, in memory of the parents of Bell Tower Foundation President Carole Custer. Jefferson Matters Events and Tourism Coordinator Molly Cunninghman talks about the other changes to the admissions.
“Just an update, it is now $5 admission per person. And you can also, if you want to go there often this year, you can pick up season passes at the Welcome Center in the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, those are $25. So stop in if you want to get your season pass so you can go up there as many times as you want.”
The bell tower includes a four octave carillon where local and area musicians called Mahanay Maestros will perform Tower Tunes Live concerts throughout the season. Visitors can ride an elevator to the Nally Observation Deck where you can see the five surrounding counties, as well as the downtown rooftop art and the Ring Out for Art sculptures.
The bell tower will be open daily starting Memorial Day through the end of September.
