The Mary J Barnett Memorial Library has several events in May, with some happening soon.
Library Director Jerri Hawkins says the first thing for the month has already started, with registration for the library’s Summer Reading Program having opened on the 1st. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that even though many programs are geared towards the youth of Guthrie Center, that isn’t the case with this program.
“We have lots of activities scheduled throughout the month of June and the beginning part of July. And Summer Reading Program is not just for children, Summer Reading Program is open to everyone. We have adult activities, teen activities, elementary student activities, and we also have baby and toddler (activities). So everyone is welcome to join our Summer Reading Program.”
Hawkins mentions that in the next week, there’s a few other events as well. On Friday at 10am, there will be a spring themed story hour, with a fork stamped tulip craft, then on May 9th the Between the Covers Book Club will meet at 3pm to go over their current book, “What Was Mine” by Helen Ross. The next day there will be a digital equity town hall meeting at 6pm, where the Office of the Chief Information Officer will answer questions and concerns about broadband internet. Then on May 11th, the State of Iowa Department of Health and Human Services will hold a program on anxiety reduction and self care from 10:30am to noon.
