This weekend one Greene County town will be spotlighted with several people enjoying some entertainment.
May 5th-7th is the Rippey Ruckus where five baseball teams will play games at Walt Anderson Field. The teams include the Rippey Demons, St. Michael Angels and Crystal Cubs of the Minnesota 50+ Baseball League, the Omaha Cowboys from the Omaha Men’s Senior Baseball League, and the KC Black Sox from the Kansas City Men’s Senior Baseball League.
Rippey Baseball Commission Promoter Bruce Thome tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Rippey Ruckus started in 2021 with a couple of teams and now includes five with games starting Friday at 4pm, then on Saturday beginning at 9am and finally on Sunday with a 10am start. Thome invites everyone out this weekend to catch some free baseball and there will be concession stand items for sale, with proceeds going back to continually improving the field. He talks about some projects that are left to be done.
“Outfield, we got windscreens put up, we got purple screens. So have over 200 feet covered out of 300. We need to purchase a little bit more of those to enclose the park so it looks really nice. I want to make it a little more handicap compliant. Get some concrete slabs and maybe some awnings for like people with wheelchairs or older folks that have a walker that can’t go up in the stands.”
Additionally, there will be other high school games played throughout the summer, including when Greene County plays Perry in baseball.
