The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During reports, Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn gave an update. He said there are 75 pending criminal cases and there were two jury trials scheduled for the next two weeks. County Zoning Administrator Chuck Wenthold gave a reminder about the Board of Adjustment holding a public hearing on Thursday at 6pm in the boardroom for NationalGrid Renewables and their solar panel project near Grand Junction.
The Board then held a discussion about an ordinance for this year’s Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) when it comes through the county on July 25th. The ordinance will cover anyone who is over the age of 18 and wants to be a vendor in the unincorporated parts of the county. The vendor fees include $400 for any for-profit businesses and $100 for non-profits. Anyone under the age of 18 can’t be charged a fee or have to obtain a vendor permit. Following the discussion, the Board also wanted to add that all vendors are to be off the road right of way, be on the right side of the route and have at least a $1 million liability insurance policy. The Board may consider approving the ordinance next week.
The Board then approved the county sheriff’s quarterly report of fees for January through March of $47,773, a resolution to accept the resignation of Deputy Shane Monthei and hiring him to be a full time jailer for the sheriff’s office, and changing a project number for a previously approved agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a bridge replacement project on South Grimmell Road. Additionally, the Board approved an agreement with Certified Testing Services to authorize Doug Hawn as the signer for the communication tower project, with the conditional approval of documents necessary after review by the county attorney. Finally, the Board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Office of the Chief Information Officer for enhanced security services and naming Billie Jo Hoskins as authorized representative for the execution of the MOU.
