Many people know about Habitat for Humanity, and what they do for people that need help, but may not know how things are done from behind the scenes.

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Ron Christenson says that he takes an administrative role in his position, working to make sure that things get done the way they need to be done. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he secures funds and schedules the work.

“So my job is to organize the volunteers and then also get us the grants that it takes in order to purchase those materials and get the tools that we need and purchase the land, and those kind of things up front so that we can build the next house and the next house, because those funds come in over time when people pay us back. But we need those funds up front to build the next house.”

Christenson mentions that for 2023, most of the help they offer will be in the form of home repairs, as the organization didn’t have the funds they would have liked to have saved up to commit to building multiple houses.
