A Greene County High School graduate was a recent champion at this year’s Drake Relays.

Carter Morton graduated from Greene County High School in 2020 and won the Drake Relays Decathlon with the University of Northern Iowa. The third-year Panther scored a career best 7,454 points in the ten event competition to kick-off the 2023 Drake Relays. 

Morton was the leader at the halfway point after the first day of the decathlon. Morton had a slim lead over his teammate by less than 50 points, but had a comfortable lead over the rest of the field by over 400 points. 

The decathlon includes the 100 and 400 meter dashes, 110 meter high hurdles, 1,500 meter run, and field events with the long jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, shotput and javelin.
