Jaidyn Sellers of Panorama won the high school girls’ 100 meter dash at the Drake Relays on Friday afternoon in 12.23 seconds and followed that up with another title in the 400 meter dash in :56.24. Her preliminary time of 12.12 was faster than the finals time, but the Panorama junior had no trouble in pulling away from the field. She was .11 ahead of Des Moines Hoover’s Jessica Kyne. Sellers has multiple Class 2A State titles to her credit and now adds two individual Drake Relays crowns. The 400 was a finals event run in three section and Sellers won from the third and final section., finishing ahead of two sisters from Cedar Rapids Kennedy. A very busy day saw the Panther finish ninth in the high jump Friday morning in a season best 5′ 4″.
ADM high jumper London Warmuth had a big day with a leap of 5′ 6″ and a second place finish. Warmuth did not have a miss until 5′ 8″, when the bar went down on all three attempts. ADM was also placed in the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:42.84 when the quartet of Addison Tollari, Jada Grove, Josi Dufoe, and Makayla Crannell placed fourth. Crannell also made the 100 meter dash final where she was fourth in 12.53 seconds. The ADM boys were 20th in the 4 x 200 in 1:31.01 with Aiden Flora, Cade Morse, Zach Lohmann, and Jamaul Richardson- Williams.
Carter Morton of Jefferson, a third year athlete at the U. of Northern Iowa, wasn’t satisfied with winning the 10-event decathlon held Wednesday and Thursday. Most would be exhausted and glad to be done, but Morton entered the University/College division of the triple jump on Friday and placed sixth with a best effort of 47′ 10″.
Winterset’s Logan Fairchild, twice a State place winning wrestler is only a sophomore and wrestling isn’t the only sport he’s excelling in. Fairchild placed fifth in the high school boys 100 meter dash in 10.95 seconds and was seventh in the 400 meter dash in 49.37 seconds.
The final events Friday night were the high school preliminaries in the 4 x 400 meter relay. ADM was fifteenth in the prelims for boys and 20th for girls. The boys ran 3:28.13 with Zach Lohmann, Cade Morse, Braden Rynearson, and Chase Grove. The girls were timed in 4:11.19 with Madi James, Hannah Desmaris, Aniston Tollari, and Brecken Morse.
