Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg inducted Dallas Center’s Robert “Bob” King into the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame on Thursday at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.

King has been known as the “go-to,” volunteer in Dallas Center and has been a key piece in development and environmental projects within the city . He has been instrumental in the establishment of Heritage Park in Dallas Center, raised funds and maintained 80 trees throughout the city, coordinated the Meals on Wheels program for Dallas Center and is an honorary grant writer and is responsible for the city of Dallas Center receiving roughly $250,000 in grant funds for local projects and enhancements. King told Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s really nice of the community to nominate him.

“It’s nice and I’ve worked hard and it feels like they’re recognizing it. And there’s a whole lot of nice people behind me and around me. And so I’m hitting, sitting here trying to figure out how to get all of them into this, too, because they deserve it as well.”

Dallas Center has declared March 11th as Bob King Appreciation Day, to honor his volunteer work. The Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to honor Iowans who have served in their communities. The recognition is the most prestigious state-level honor volunteers can receive.
