A Boxholm man was recently sentenced to probation for a December incident in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 57-year-old Eddie Simpson pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of methamphetamine, habitual offender. He had a 15 year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The charge stemmed from an incident on December 2nd. While a Jefferson Police Officer was conducting a traffic stop for a non-operating license plate light, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from Simpson’s vehicle. He admitted to having marijuana and during a probable cause search, other drug-related items were found, including methamphetamine. 

Court documents show that Simpson was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, court costs, court-appointed attorney fees. As per the plea agreement, the other charges, including a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana, habitual offender, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.
