Events for high school athletes began yesterday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, but today and tomorrow will be the busiest. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will update listeners today and Saturday on the progress of area qualifiers.
Yesterday, Makaya Crannell of ADM finished third among high school girls in the long jump at 18′ 1-3/4″, which she accomplished on her first jump of the competition. In the girls’ discus throw, Kileigh Lahacz of Dallas Center-Grimes was tenth with a best toss of 126′ 2″ and Panorama’s Aryilan Steenblock was 23rd in the same event at 109′ 1″. Payton Jacobe of ACGC was 24th in the boys’ shot put.
Action starts at 8 a.m. today with session one. A late afternoon/night session will follow.
