The Perry Community School recently hired a new high school head football coach.

Tyler Hovey has been the assistant football coach for the last three years at Perry High School and has been promoted to the head coach. Hovey played football at Decorah High School and graduated in 2013 and then attended Luther College in Decorah. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s thrilled to get the opportunity to coach football at Perry High School.

“I really believe we have a really good group of guys playing football for Perry, and I’m super excited to be the one to lead them to some success.”

He explains that his future goals are to make the program competitive while growing the interest level in the community.

“Right now, I’m not necessarily focused on wins and losses. I think that will take care of itself. I’m not necessarily setting goals for a number of wins or anything like that. I just want us to go out there and compete.”

Hovey expects to have around 60 players when they start team camp in the summer. Perry’s first football game is scheduled for August 25 at Dewey Field.
