A Tuesday evening fire causes a school building to be closed in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District.

According to the DeSoto Fire Department, they responded to the scene at 9:30pm at 317 Spruce Street. Fire Chief Tim Murry says that the fire started from an electrical shortage to an air conditioning unit which caught a roof membrane on fire at the ADM Intermediate School. Murry explains that the northwest portion of the building received the most damage from smoke and water. He states the structure sustained roughly $50,000-70,000 in damage and no one was hurt or in the building during the incident.

The following entities responded to the scene: DeSoto Police Department along with the Adel, Earlham and Van Meter Fire Departments.

According to an email sent out by Superintendent Greg Dufoe, the fire was on the roof of the 1990’s portion of the building. Dufoe noted classes were canceled for the intermediate students for Wednesday. Dufoe thanked all of the first responders and fire departments that responded quickly to the situation.
