An all-weather track and artificial surface on the football/soccer field at Carroll Athletic Field allowed the coed track and field meet in Carroll to be held on Thursday with no issues. It rained Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, but by meet time even the throwing areas were fit for competition. Carroll won the girls’ team title and Underwood placed first for boys.
The Greene County girls finished in fifth place among eight teams and the boys were twelfth among 15 teams. Winning events for Greene County were Daniele Madsen in the girls’ shot put at 33′ 9″ and the 4 x 200 meter relay for girls was first in 1:49.71 with Olivia Shannon, Kamryn Sanders, Natalie Heupel, and Katrina Heupel.
Other highlights for the Rams were a season best time of 4:10.43 for the girls 4 x 400 meter relay with freshman Kaycee Pittman and Shannon and the Heupel twins, all seniors. That time is a new school record for the years competing as Greene County. Senior Jesse Miller went 152′ 4″ in the discus throw for a career best.
The cutoff date for Drake Relays performances has past, so qualifiers for the April 27-28-29 event in Des Moines should be known later today. Greene County athletes are in the running to qualify for the 4 x 100 meter relays.
