A fun, area based presentation is coming up at the Stuart Public Library.
People Active for Library Service (PALS) of the Stuart Library member Carol Brewer says that the group is sponsoring the event, where speaker Rod Stanley will be at the library to go over a historical entertainment factor for the area surrounding Dexter. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’ll be going over the Dexfield Amusement Park.
“What he’s going to tell us about is that this park was one of the largest amusement parks that was built in Iowa (at that time). And it was built in 1915, and it then stayed a part of the community until 1932. So what you might find there, if you were to go back in history, is that it had (a) large cement swimming pool, it also had an open-air dance hall, a skating rink, some games, free movies, programs, and on Sundays when it was open, it’s noted that approximately 4,000 people would come to this event at the park. So that’s a lot of people, they came from Des Moines and all of the surrounding areas, so it was very popular.”
She mentions that the program will be on April 29th, and it starts at 11am. It is free and open to the public, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
