With National Prescription Take Back Day coming up, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is giving advice and an opportunity to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante says that this initiative promotes getting rid of expired or unused medications so they don’t fall into the wrong hands. Infante explains that these unwanted prescriptions should never be placed in the trash or flushed down a toilet.

There’s a burden to wastewater management when you start disposing of things that shouldn’t be disposed of that way. I know that’s how our previous generations might have done it, but there are ways to make these drugs safe, to be disposed of. And, you know, we’re trying to be as kind to the environment as possible. Plus, you know, it’s just a good feeling to know that it’s going to the right place.”

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office will be giving residents a chance to safely dispose of any unneeded medications from 10am until 2pm on Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office on Thin Blue Line Lane in Adel. The Sheriff’s Office will also accept vape pens for disposal without the battery but they won’t take needles or liquids. People will not have to exit their vehicle to participate in this event.
