The Adel-DeSoto -Minburn School Board approved their collective bargaining tentative agreement for the 2023-24 school year.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the school board closed up negotiations with their teacher union fairly quickly. He says that the Board approved the basic structure to increase teacher salaries by 4-percent, an additional personal day added to their allocation annually and they approved the pay rate of $20 for any employee assigned to teach during their non-instructional time. Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio that even with the increase, teachers could be compensated more.

“It’s no secret, even with a 4-percent increase, our teachers are not paid what they’re worth. They’re extremely valuable. Their wage does not match their contributions to our community. So we’re thankful that we could settle at a place that is really healthy.”

The total package, including wages and benefits, is a 4.29% increase. Dufoe says they will strive to improve that percentage every year.
