Greene County’s Ram Relays track & field meet was held under sunny, and somewhat breezy conditions early in the meet on Monday at Linduska Field in Jefferson with temperatures in the mid 5o’s at the start. Although not perfect weather, meet officials were glad to get it in after Early Bird meets set for late March were weathered out this year and last, as were the 2021 and ’22 Ram Relays. No Spring sports were held in 2020 due to the Pandemic, so it had been a while since a high school meet was held here..

ADM won team titles for girls and boys. Greene County was fifth among girls’ teams and third on the boys’ side. The ADM girls had 199 points to 127.5 for Carroll, 78 for Boone, 70.5 for Fort Dodge, 56 by Greene County, 34 for Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), eight by Perry and one point from East Sac County (Lake View). The Tigers won the boys’ team title with 124 points to Kuemper Catholic’s 121. Greene County had 94 with 84 by Carroll, 56 for Boone, 46 by ESC, 37 from Fort Doge, and 24 points for Perry.

The Rams won one event for girls and that was the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:12.34 with seniors Natalie Heupel, Katrina Heupel, Olivia Shannon, and freshman Kaycee Pittman.

Greene County won the boys’ 4 x 100 meter relay in 44.65 seconds with junior Trey Schilling, sophomore Camden Strennen, and seniors Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller. The Rams won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:37.33 with Camden Jacobs, Kaiden Burbank, Lane Fields, and Eli Mohr.

T-shirts were presented to those winning individual events and the winning teams received trophies. The Ram Relays honor certain individuals by having events named after them. Typically, events are named after State Champions, but Monday night the boys’ 3,200 meter run was named after Jefferson-Scranton graduate Chase Flack, who passed away while running a road race in 2019. Flack was a State track & field participant and place winner as well as a two-time State wrestling place winner and a football player.

Next on the schedule for the Rams is Thursday’s Tiger-Knight Relays in Carroll. Thursday’s meets are the last competitions allowed to be submitted for Drake Relays consideration. Competition for high school athletes at Drake is held April 20-21-22.
