The White House recently released its review of President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
In a 12 page report, the White House defends the president’s decision to withdraw by calling an end to a two decades-long war and saying it was the right thing to do for the country. The report says that the Biden administration was “severely constrained,” by the conditions created by the former president’s administration’s actions and it says they “embolden the Taliban.”
US Congressman Zach Nunn has done three combat tours in Afghanistan as a member of the United States Air Force and he says that the Biden administration’s poor planning caused the chaos and loss of life during the US’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“They can cast blame on whoever else they want but they were the man in charge for the last eight months and as a result of their poor planning and withdrawal of Bagram Air Base which would have been a secure US led base for the evacuation. We left thousands of Americans behind enemy lines and we had 13 gold star families sadly created that day.”
Nunn says he will continue to be a leader in holding the Biden administration accountable for this debacle.
“I sat in on the foreign services committee and called them out specifically for what needs to be changed because this cannot happen again. I will be a strong fighter and hold the administration accountable for this including for those Americans who are still trapped in Afghanistan today.”
