April is off and running and planters are in the fields with the warm weather.
Dallas County ISU Extension Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson says that the soil conditions are in great shape for growing with the four-inch soil depth temperature sitting around 57-degrees. She explains that it is the appropriate time for farmers to plant corn and soybeans. Anderson mentions that there will be a cold front that hits this weekend that might affect the progress of the planted crops.
According to the latest Iowa Department of Agriculture Crop Progress Report, the statewide soil temperatures averaged in the low 50-degrees and the dry warm conditions allowed farmers to have 3.5 suitable fieldwork days.
