The Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency has announced that as of 8am April 12th, a burn ban has been implemented for both Adair and Guthrie Counties. The current dry conditions in the region have caused an increase in fire responses for both counties, and as the conditions persist, winds and dead vegetation are the perfect fuel to spread fires rapidly.
During these dry, windy conditions, citizens are reminded to not throw out cigarettes when on the road, and the burning of yard waste, piled tree debris and other items should be stopped as well. Controlled burns are allowed ONLY if there is a signed burn ban permit. Permits must be signed by the fire chief in the fire district that the individual wanting to conduct the burn lives in. Any violation of a burn ban can subject a person to citation or arrest for reckless use of fire or disobeying a burn ban.
More information on burn bans and the law, or to check the current status of burn bans can be found on the State Fire Marshal’s statewide burn ban website, which is linked below.
