Greene County had its girls’ golf team on the road and its boys’ soccer squad at home in Grand Junction at Karber Field on Monday.

Coach Heath Telleen’s girls had enough players for a team score for the first time this season, falling to Roland-Story at the River Bend Golf Course at Story City by a 182-281 score. The coach said “This was a tough and long course, so it was challenging for the girls. I am proud of all of them for battling through the nine holes. We are getting better each time out.”

The Norsemen were led by medalist Makenna Carlson at 40 and runner-up Brinley Carlson at 42. The four scores counting in the team total for the Rams were 62 from Maya Telleen, 70 for Taylor Johnston, 75 from Maggie Mikkelson, and 78 by Hallie Monthei.

In soccer, Coach Carl Behne’s boys improved to 4-0 on the season with their third shutout during an 8-0 victory vs. Ballard (Huxley). The Rams are eighth this week in the Class 2A Iowa Soccer Coaches and Officials Association rankings. Gesser Gutierres scored twice and now has 11 goals for the season. Jose Velazco also had two goals and scoring once each were Bork Ersness, Jack Hansen, Chad Maston, and Kolby Angell. Velazco had two assists with one each by Fredy Aguilar, Gabe Ebersole, and Cody McCollom. Ebersole is the goalkeeper for the Rams and Coach Behne said a well placed punt taken on the second bounce and controlled by Jose turned into a goal and an assist. The coach added it took about 15-20 minutes into the match for the Rams to get their feet under them, but once Angell punched in the first goal, the Rams settled in and won comfortably.

Greene County soccer is in Carroll tonight to face the Kuemper Catholic Knights at the Kuemper Fieldhouse in JV/varsity boys’ action.
