The City of Perry recently made an announcement to appoint a new fire chief.
Grason Hill was promoted from the Interim Fire Chief role to now the Fire Chief, and it was approved by Perry’s City Council. Hill moved to Perry in 1993 and joined the volunteer fire department and has currently 30 years of service. Hill attained his high school diploma from Blairburg in 1977 and is a part of the Knights of Columbus and the Perry Fire Association. He describes the process of getting to become the chief.
“When I moved to Perry, I joined the fire department and through the years I’ve just worked my way up through the ladder. I was assistant chief, I was captain. I’ve done all the ranks and just keep going to school. We have school that we go to. There’s Fort Dodge, there’s Ames, there’s Cedar Rapids. And so I’ve been going to school at different times to catch up on all the up to date.
Hill had previously taken over the role as Interim Fire Chief on January 16th because former Fire Chief Chris Hinds retired. He will be responsible for cleaning and reorganizing the fire department, training new volunteers and getting them prepared for any call.
