The Iowa Supreme Court will visit and hear arguments at 7pm in Perry Performing Arts Center tomorrow and there are some things attendees should know.

The Iowa Supreme Court has been to 33 communities and visited over 200 schools since May of 2011. Communications Director of the Iowa Judicial Branch Steve Davis says the supreme court likes to venture out to other places so the public can witness how they conduct an appellate court process. Davis explains they will hear a real oral argument about the case called “State vs Autor,” and will provide the audience with a program that has a 800 word summary so everyone can get up to speed before the proceeding begins, biographies of each justice along with a justice seating chart.

“Then it talks a little bit about the role of the Supreme Court and how the appellate process is different from the trial court process. And so it’s all in this program that everybody gets. So once the oral argument starts, everybody is ready to tune in and listen and have a better idea of what they’re seeing and hearing.”

Justice Christopher McDonald will also visit Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School on Tuesday and Justice Thomas Waterman will meet with students from Perry High School on Wednesday.
