The Greene County Treasurer’s Office is reminding county residents about the upcoming deadline to pay property taxes.

Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the deadline for the second half installment of property taxes is due tomorrow without a penalty. However, she says if property owners that don’t pay their property taxes by that date, will be assessed a 1.5-percent per month penalty. 

Mechaelsen points out if a property owner has a mortgage, the property taxes are typically paid through their escrow. She adds, a property owner can always check with their personal banker. 

Individuals who still need to pay their property taxes can do so by either going to the Greene County Treasurer’s Office inside the Greene County Courthouse, use the dropbox on the eastside of the courthouse or go online to iowatreasurers.org.
