The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

The Board approved a liquor license for Twin Vines and the county urban renewal reports, and also heard opening bids for two bridge replacement projects and for a mowing contract for the Secondary Roads Department Grounds and roadsides. Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern will go over all the bids to make sure all the math is correct, and that everything was filed correctly before coming to the Board for approval of any of the bids.

The Board also held a public hearing on the proposed maximum property tax levy rate, and approved to set the max rate at $4.50 per $1,000 taxable valuation. The max levy rate is not the final number that the Board will settle on, but is instead just a cutoff for how high they’d be willing to go for the current budget year.

The Board also approved a second counter proposal to the city of Guthrie Center for a repair project on Grand Street. The motion made by Supervisor Steve Smith states that the county will cover up to but no more than $32,410, which is half of the estimated repair cost. The county will require a reasonable timeline for the project, and once the project is finished the county will not be liable for anything that may happen to the street. The motion was passed in a 3-2 split vote, with Board Chair Supervisor Brian Johnson and Supervisors Maggie Armstrong and Smith voting yes, and Supervisors Mike Dickson and JD Kuster voting no. Dickson and Kuster both voted no because of concerns of where the money to pay for the project would come from.

The Board also set a public hearing for the 2023-24 Guthrie County Budget for April 11th at 10am.
