The Stuart Chamber of Commerce is helping to sponsor a brand new event.

Chamber President Katie Adams tells Raccoon Valley Radio she had the idea last fall to do a race training class. She says recently there was an individual who will help and so the Chamber is getting ready for its first race training class.

“It is a 5k training program, and we’re calling it ‘2nd St 5k Training Program.’ Because if you were to step outside of a business on 2nd Street, here in downtown Stuart and run to the complete end of 2nd Street going to the east and back, and going to the west and back to that starting point, that is literally 3.2-miles, that is a 5k. So the inspiration here is that we want to encourage community members to get out this spring, enjoy the fresh air, maybe get physical by walking or running, with the goal of participating in the Good Egg Days 5k on June 17th.”

Adams mentions that on April 4th, there will be an open house with information about the training program at her business, Stuart Flowers and Gifts. She adds that as the host business for the event, individuals taking the program will be able to leave any personal belongings in the store, and they’ll lock the door to keep everything safe while everyone is running.

Group runs will be Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting April 11th, and continuing the 10 weeks until Good Egg Days.
