The Dallas County Conservation Board will offer an opportunity for participants to scout birds with a hike this weekend.

The “March Bird Hike,” will give those willing to attend a beginner class to introduce those willing to learn about the diversity of birds when the seasons transition from winter to spring. Outreach Coordinator Sarah Gilchrist tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this event will be led by bird expert Mike Havlik to improve people’s bird IQ.

“So just making them more aware of what to look for and especially as more species become available, as it gets nicer outside and our migratory birds start coming back every month, he wants to do a hike so you can see what is new this month.”

The program will be from 8:30 to 10:30am on Saturday at the Voas Nature Area in Minburn. It is free and registration is only necessary to be notified if the event gets canceled. The DCCB will supply binoculars and informational books.
