On Monday of this week the Iowa High School Athletic Association released District football assignments for the 2023 and ’24 seasons. Greene County will play in the six team District 8 in Class 2A. The Rams have won District 8 titles each of the past two seasons, going 5-0 in District games both times. Overall, Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams were 8-2 in 2021 and ’22. The Rams had just five seniors and three senior starters last Fall, so much of the team returns.
The other teams in 2A District 8 are Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), Roland-Story (Story City), Des Moines Christian, Southeast Valley (Growrie), and Saydel (Des Mones). In 2022, Kuemper was a 1A program that went 8-2 and defeated Greene County 35-0. DMC was the only other team on the new schedule that the Rams played last year and Greene County was a 30-22 winner. The Lions were 4-5 overall. R-S went 4-5, SEV was 3-5, and Saydel was 3A last season, losing all nine games.
Schools now submit their choices for non-district opponents and the Iowa High School Athletic Association makes the final selections of non-district games.
