The Greene County Development Corporation Board met this past Tuesday in regular session.
The meeting started with an update on the building that Aureon leases from GCDC. The company has moved to a work-from-home model for its employees and are no longer going to operate the Jefferson Contact Center, as the final day is April 28th. In a press release from Aureon, the decision came after the company reviewed its operation and thought in the current remote climate they didn’t need to have multiple physical locations.
So the GCDC Board heard from Danille Curtis who is the Iowa Coordinator for Midwest Mission. She said the non-profit organization that provides relief and services to individuals who need it are looking to expand from their home base location in Springfield, Illinois. She talked about the kinds of services that will be included in the new possible location of where Aureon operated in Jefferson. The details are being finalized for the contract.
GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton gave an update of the diversity project. He said Carlos Arguello is working with American Athletic Incorporated, the Greene County Medical Center and Wild Rose Casino and Resort in preparation with current employees to accept new employees with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Paxton pointed out the new Multicultural Family Resource Center will help transition individuals with cultural backgrounds to working and living in Greene County. He said they have a person from Storm Lake ready to be in this position and they have applied for a state grant to help offset the salary expense and are looking to have involvement from the City of Jefferson, Greene County School District, Greene County Board of Supervisors, and other businesses in the county.
