The Perry High School Mock Trial team recently participated in a highly prestigious contest.

The team of ten students was one of thirty that made the trip to the Iowa State Bar Association Mock Trial Central Regional Contest on March 7th at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. In the first round the Bluejays represented the Defendant in a competition against Ankeny High School and then in the second round they represented the Plaintiff against Dowling Catholic High School.

Each year schools are provided with a criminal or a Mock Trial case. Mock Trial Competitions are judged by courtroom judges, attorneys and other legal professionals. Then teams are awarded points for their ability to effectively portray the roles of attorneys and witnesses while in courtroom processes. The mock trial competitions are designed to teach students about the legal system while providing an academic competition. The Perry Blue Jay Mock Trial team is advised by Tom Lipovac, AnneMarie McDevitt and Darcy Spellman.
