A massive housing development is getting closer for Greene County.
Jefferson City Council member Harry Ahrenholtz serves on the Greene County Development Corporation Board and says developer, Kading Properties of Des Moines, is looking to build about 140 housing units on the available 24-acre land in GCDC’s East Business Park, along south Highway 30 in Jefferson. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio Kading proposed initially building multi-family rental units with a duplex or a fourplex design and then possibly adding single family units as well.
Ahrentholz was one of about 20 representatives from Greene County that toured different Kading properties, including Marshalltown and Knoxville. Ahrentholz describes what impressed him the most after seeing the fully occupied Marshalltown property.
“The way that they’re being managed, the up-keep, the look of the facility, the grounds around it, automobiles: where they’re parked and where they’re not parked. They obviously are somebody that takes, very seriously, that this is the kind of property that we want, not only for our tenants, but also for the community.”
Ahrenholtz believes now is an opportune time to have a large-scale housing development project in Jefferson.
“We think the setting is right, we think that the Kading company is the right one for us to work with on this kind of a project. So there is a lot of anticipation and some excitement about the possibilities because this does help a lot as far as what we keep hearing that we don’t have the type of housing arrangements that we need to meet the demands that we think are out there.”
Ahrenholtz adds the final details are being negotiated with Kading Properties and hopes to see construction begin soon.
