Greene County entered nine events at Friday’s Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State Championship inside the Lied Recreation Center in Ames on the Iowa State University Campus. The Rams competed in Class 2A and two events were top eight place winners and two more placed in the top 10 for head coach Chad Morton.
The highest finish for the Rams was turned in by sophomore Lane Fields in the high jump at 6′ 1″, a career best good for sixth place. Placing seventh was freshman Drew Wolterman in the 800 meter run at 2:10.96. Fields scored three points for the team and Wolterman the other two as the Rams finished tied for 26th place in 2A with five points.
In addition, two relays for the Rams were ninth place finishers. The 4 x 100 ran :46.00 with Eli Mohr, Patrick Graham, Camden Strennen, and Jessi Miller, and the distance medley relay was clocked in 3:56.07 with Nick Madsen, Aiden Bardole, Mohr, and Wolterman. Also, Noah Hinote finished eleventh in the 800 in 2:13.78 and Madsen placed eleventh in the 400 meter dash in 53.89 seconds. The long jump had Jose Velazco finish 17th at 18′ 1-1/2″ and Broc Stream in 19th with a leap of 17′ 8-1/4″. Broc Hamman was 19th in the shot put at 39′ 4″ and Kamden Kinne was 20th at 39′ 1/4″. In the 60 meter dash it was Trey Schilling running 7:65 seconds, good for 30th, and Mohr 49th in :08.03. The 4 x 400 meter relay was 23rd in 3:57.52.
Greene County rounds out the indoor portion of the the season on Saturday, March 18 for both the girls and boys at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. The outdoor season is slated to begin on March 27 in Jefferson at Linduska Field for the Rams’ Early Bird Coed Meet.
