A reminder that today several Greene County High School students are competing at the Iowa High School Speech Association State Individual contest.
Six students are performing in six categories, including Gavin Vander Linden in musical theater, Ava Schilling with acting, Bella Linberg and Esther Van Horn are both in prose, Allee Hinote with poetry and Bill Wright in expository address and radio broadcasting. Linberg describes what her prose is about and how she’s enjoyed performing it.
“My prose is about a small mayor who is fed up with people going to their town for Christmas vacation. I chose this because (Speech Coach) Miss (Kelley) Gray gave it to me and she said it would be a good fit for me. I think that the piece is very sassy and it kind of fits me.”
Wright talks about what he is looking forward to the most at the state contest.
“I just like to have the ultimate speech experience because speech was pushed aside by covid the past two years. So I get to have it with a bunch of my Rammies and just have fun with them.”
Greene County is traveling to Ames High School for the state contest. Students that receive Division I-ratings from the judges must also be nominated by the judges in order to perform at the all-state festival at the University of Northern Iowa on March 27th.
