Recently the Panora City Council approved an idea to create a memorial wall at the community center.
Mayor Pat Parker tells Raccoon Valley Radio some local groups wanted to honor Panora’s fallen veterans.
“Our local (American) Legion and (Veterans of Foreign Wars) VFW approached the city. We have 12 individuals that have had flags dedicated during our Memorial Day events that we have every year, that were killed in action. And those flags, after being flown for several years, are getting to the point where they need to be retired. So what the Legion and VFW would like to do is take those flags, put them in cases, and then create a memorial wall over at the community center so those individuals can be honored throughout the year, and not just on Memorial Day.”
Parker says the two groups will now put together a construction plan, and then present that to the Council for approval. He adds that the groups plan on doing some fundraising to pay for the construction, and hope to have the wall done before Memorial Day this year.
