Two Guthrie County residents were recently awarded the Governor’s Lifesaving Award.
Friday morning, Tom Flanery of Panora and Dan Pauley of Guthrie Center were both honored for brave and heroic feats they performed. Flanery received the Meritorious Service Award for helping save a family from a burning home while working in West Des Moines, while Pauley received the Outstanding Service Award for helping save the life of a friend after a hunting accident, where he and his tree stand fell 20 feet to the ground.
The Meritorious Service Award is awarded to those individuals in recognition of courageous and unselfish service rendered during a time of distress. The Outstanding Service Award is presented to individuals who have performed a courageous act in an attempt to save someone who was in danger of losing his or her life or to individuals who unselfishly rendered service in a time of emergency.
