Some water districts in the Racoon Valley Radio listening area were recently recognized for water quality.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced that 96 community water systems in Iowa were awarded the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Water Fluoridation Quality Award, including five in the Adair, Guthrie, Greene and Dallas counties.

Those awarded include Casey Water Supply and Guthrie Center Municipal Water Works in Guthrie County, Greenfield Municipal Utilities in Adair County, Jefferson Water Department in Greene County, and Perry Municipal Water Works in Dallas County, and all maintained a consistent level of drinking water fluoridation in 2021. According to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, it’s estimated that for every dollar spent on fluoridation, $20 in dental treatments are saved.
