Iowa Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair talks about a bill moving through the senate that would restructure community based corrections systems.
Sinclair says that she’s heard some concerns based on some of the changes that would occur, and that she can understand them. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she also is concerned about any changes.
“They have some pretty good results. They’re managing some recidivism, and so I’m not sure. If we’re talking about cost savings, then, sure, you’re probably going to see some cost savings with the changes to community based corrections, but in the long run, are we going to see cost savings if it’s impacting recidivism in our prison population?”
Sinclair adds that this is a topic that the senate is definitely going to have to take a good look at to make sure that restructuring is the right decision.
