Dallas Center-Grimes girls basketball team will begin their quest for a state championship this morning from Des Moines.
(20-3) DCG Mustangs will face off against (16-8) Glenwood Rams at 11:45am at the Wells Fargo Arena in the state quarterfinal round. The Mustangs are no stranger to this big stage because last year they lost in the state semi-final round in triple overtime to Xavier. The Rams also have experience as they have made four consecutive appearance in the state tournament and Glenwood lost in the semi-final game last year to Bishop Heelan.
Dallas Center-Grimes is led by their seniors, forward Emma Miner who averages 15 points per game and six rebounds. Point guard Finley Fitzgerald who scores 11 points per game and two assist. The defense has been the calling card for the Mustangs only allowing 37 points from their opponents, while scoring nearly 56 points as a team. They won the Little Hawkeye Conference will an undefeated perfect 14-0 record and ranked the number one team in class 4a.
Glenwood is also led by a pair of seniors, guard Jenna Hopp is averaging 24 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Guard Katie Hughes is the second leading scorer on the team averaging 10 points and two assist per game. The Rams have scored the fifth most points in class 4a but they also allow close to 51 points. Glenwood won the Hawkeye Ten Conference with a record of (8-2).
