The Greene County High School Jazz Choir is hitting its stride.
Last week, Ram Jive went to a competition at Spirit Lake for the “Shake the Lakes.” Director David Heupel says the ensemble went up against two other Class 3A schools and took home first place against Estherville and Algona. Heupel talks about the three songs Ram Jive performs.
“We’re doing ‘It’s a Beautiful Day,’ it’s arranged by Matt Falker. It’s kind of an odd arrangement of the U2 song ‘Beautiful Day,’ so it’s a little different but it’s that same type of song. I’m sure you’ve heard of ‘Killing Me Softly,’ which is gorgeous, the lyrics are really beautiful. And that one was arranged by Paris Rutherford who just passed away in the last couple of months, a really big jazz name. And then we finish with ‘It’s You or No One,’ and that’s arranged by Carrie Marsh, and we love doing Carrie Marsh pieces.”
Heupel thought the kids did a great job last week at Spirit Lake and he says the kids themselves were thrilled with how well they did. The next performances for Ram Jive is tonight at 7pm and the Pops Concert at the high school auditorium on March 7th.
