Greene County track and field practice is underway for the Rams for both the girls and boys teams. The Rams have been strong for some time in the sport and girls’ head coach Derek Merk talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about practices being underway.
Numbers are up for the girls for this opening week of practice. The coach is expecting up to 35 girls once everyone reports for workouts. There’s not much time until the indoor season begins on March 6 inside the UNI-Dome for the A.D. Dickinson Relays on the U. of Northern Iowa campus.
Coach Merk talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about what he hopes to accomplish indoors at UNI, Iowa State, and Buena Vista. “I like the fact the girls compete against high level competition from the bigger 4A and 3A classes, plus some of the top athletes from 2A and 1A schools. It gives them an idea of what the competition will be like throughout the course of the season.”
In addition to the UNI meet, the Rams are scheduled to compete indoors at Iowa State in Ames on March 9 and in Storm Lake at Buena Vista on March 18.
